Movember is here!

You may have noticed throughout the month of November many young men sharing a little upper lip hairy fun with us all. Yes, that's right Movember has hit Melbourne streets hard. These generous hairy men are supporting a charity aiming to raise money and build awareness of men's health, specifically prostate cancer and depression. The charity first began in Melbourne, Australia and has now developed into a global affair. For us ladies, we take on the role of 'Mo Sistas' whereby we help raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for our men's selfless efforts.

Below I had a bit of fun styling some looks around my 'Fingerstache.' Enjoy and be sure to support this amazing cause by sponsoring our Mo Bros. For more information on the Movember charity visit their home webstie:

MO LOOK 1
I am wearing my 'Petals' coat from The Queen Of Sky Collection by Giovanna Scarfo, Scanlan & Theodore high waisted pants, my mum's vintage belt, vintage bag, ruffled detailed blouse is from Vietnam and my new shoes are from Joanne Mercer.

MO LOOK 2
Below I'm wearing vintage leather pants which I converted into shorts. The sleeveless lace blouse was from a little shop in Bridge Road. Vintage glasses from Beacon's Closet in NYC and Harajuku Lovers shoes. You might recognise the orange bag from Dusty Petals Shop. I love it!!!

Movie Star Crush on Steve McQueen

I have had a huge movie star crush on Steve McQueen for quite some time now.  With his rebellious nature and onscreen heroic's, McQueen earned the knickname 'The King of Cool.' He left  a lasting impact on Hollywood not only for his roles in classic films such as 'The Great Escape' and 'The Thomas Crown Affair' but also for his charismatic charm, masculinity and effortlessly cool image.

McQueen was a style icon in his time and in ours.  He was actually the first man to grace the cover of the fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar. McQueen's style combined American sportswear with rugged motorcycle racer. He would often be seen in his Persol aviators, chino's, polo shirts, sports coats, knitted sweaters or a simple white tee with denim jeans. Being a racing enthusiast McQueen would include his racing attire into his fashion wardrobe, including leather jackets, racing jackets, denim and leather boots. He was also known for wearing a Rolex watch and The Rolex Explorer II Reference 1665 is also now titled the 'Rolex Steve McQueen.'
Italian sunglass company 'Persol' released a special edition remake of the sunglasses worn by the style icon McQueen. They feature Persol's distinctive Supreme Arrow and also have McQueen's signature etched in the inside arm.

On November 7th, 1980, McQueen died at the young age of 50 from cancer believed to be associated to asbestos.  31 years later, he is still recognised for his talent as an actor as well as his defined style.

Below I have  styled some Steve McQueen inspired men's fashion looks, just in case you are interested in turning your man into 'The King of Cool.' It's amazing how many designers have drawn inspiration from Steve McQueen over the years and still today. He really was and still is a true style icon.
I'd love to hear any feedback you have. Simply scroll down to the end of this post and click on 'Comments' highlighted in blue and write in the pop up box. Thanks so much!

What NOT to do at the races...

Well another Spring Racing Carnival has come to an end. Boy, did we see some amazing colour, creativity and fashion forward looks. I was so inspired by the effort ladies put into their outfits. The variety and originality was to be admired. Ladies were willing to make a statement and not just follow the common trends.

I wanted to share with you some of my favourite fashions on the field as well as celebrity fashion seen throughout the Spring Racing Carnival. I was so excited to see two of my favourite style icons; Sarah Jessica Parker and Dita Von Teese come and celebrate this fashion affair with us Melburnians.
But first, before I share these looks I would like to present you with a new Dusty Petals Video Blog.

I have put together a short video offering tips on what NOT to do at the races. So get your notepads out ready to jot down these pointers so that you will be prepared for next years racing events.

DRESS CODE: Quirky Colourful Preppy Nerd!

Hello lovely Dusty Petal followers. I was feeling particularly daring when styling my last photo shoot for Dusty Petals and decided to break all fashion rules. The result was the look below. I titled it 'Quirky Colourful Preppy Nerd.' I love how some outfits allow you to take on a new persona and create more confidence in yourself. That is exactly what this crazy number did for me.
Colour was my initial inspiration when styling this look. I have always been fasciated by the power and effect colour plays on peoples emotions. It not only impacts your own mood but also controls how people respond to you; they almost feel like they have to smile at you and become energised around you. I love that!

To help inspire you all to take be a little daring with your style I have put together some fun 'Quirky Colourful Preppy Nerd' looks below.
Also, check out the behind the scenes video of this Dusty Petals photo shoot.

What are you wearing???
