GIOVANNA SCARFO KNITWEAR COLLECTION REVEALED

Hi everyone. I wanted to use this opportunity to share a knitwear collection I designed and had samples produced a couple of years ago. Due to taking on 2 careers at once, I unfortunately had to focus on my 9 to 5 job leaving these samples abandoned.  I love this collection and wanted to share with you my inspiration board and some very rough hand drawn sketches that I did to help bring these pieces to life.

My inspiration was 1950's knitwear. I loved the feminine fit of the detailed cardigans and knit sweaters designed in that time.   My original intention for designing a knitwear collection was due to the little options of knitwear designs made available for all women's body shapes. It seemed like the only options available for a knit dress were an extended jumper covering the bum and thighs. This frustrated me as well as inspired me to design knit dresses that would compliment all body shapes, not just those with very flat bottoms. I decided on using 6o% wool and 40% cashmere for these samples. This blend is incredibly comfortable and warm to wear, whilst allowing movement on the body.I'd really appreciate your comments on this collection.

Inspiration Board
Here are some very rough sketches that I produced initially when designing this collection. You will notice that the samples were produced in a much softer colour tone. I decided on the colour changes after my original sketches were drawn. I felt that it would be harder to market such strong colours at the time. Now being a couple of years ahead, I think the solid, strong colours could fit right into the block colour trend today. There were several more sketches produced after these initial ones to ensure my manufacturers understood my overall design.
