'Dusty Petals' meets 'Yo Pop'

This weeks post combines both of my passions at this point in my life; Yo Pop and Dusty Petals. After falling in love with frozen yoghurt in New York, Dustin and I had a yearning to share this love with Melbourne. That is how 'Yo Pop' initiated. We opened our first frozen yoghurt and smoothie bar 'Yo Pop' in Phillip Island last summer. After a successful summer we are now in the process of setting up a store in Melbourne. As well as doing this I finally decided to share my passion for fashion with people through a blog and that is when 'Dusty Petals' came along. I want my blog to be about sharing my own designs, along with vintage and new trends that are currently for sale. I also wanted to provide a selection of styled looks to purchase directly from my blog.

I chose to style the below look in the Yo Pop setting as I really wanted to take advantage of the array of colours and patterns used in our 'Yo Pop' branding. I am wearing a George Ermis dress over black stockings. The jacket is vintage. It was part of a 1980's suit. When I bought this jacket it was a typical loose fitted 80's style where the ribbing hung well below the hips. The style was a sight for poor eyes but I fell in love with the patterned fabric and decided it would be worthwhile reconstructing it. I had the jacket shortened and tailored to fit my shape. I was inspired by the idea of combining the classic Chanel style cropped jacket with the traditional bomber jacket. I love how it turned out and I wear it to death. That is another passion of mine; finding vintage pieces and creating a way to reinvent them in a modern way.

I've accessorised with my own designed 'Pop Bandz' series which are fun shaped silicone bands that 'Pop' back into their original shape. We will be stocking them in our 'Yo Pop' Melbourne store very soon. The belt is vintage from my favourite store 'Friperie.' The bow clip is from 'Sportsgirl' and the shoes are Harajuku Lovers which you may have seen in previous posts. I bought them in NYC and love them to death.

I'd love to have your feedback. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for sharing.

COMING SOON!
Dusty Petals first COMPLETE LOOK for sale.
Only available to Dusty Petals followers, so if you aren't following yet simply click on 'Follow.'

My new designed fun shaped 'Pop Bandz' will be sold in our  coming 'Yo Pop' Melbourne store.

Time to shop for winter accessories!!!

Wow, winter certainly has hit Melburnians hard in recent weeks. I have mixed emotions about winter as I hate feeling cold but I absolutely love winter fashion. I love layering, accessorising and combining different fabric textures to help create that perfect winter ensemble. The most common thing to do when shopping in winter is to play it safe with colour and go for dark tones. It's almost like we want to camouflage with the miserable grey winter sky. Greys and black tones often saturate our winter wardrobes. I'm a victim myself, but this doesn't  mean we can't add some colour to accompany these black and grey tones. I definitely encourage you all to add a bit of colour to your wardrobe this season. You may be daring and choose to add colour to your staple winter coat. Otherwise, a great way to brighten up a winter wardrobe is through coloured accessories including, hosiery, socks, hats, scarves and gloves.

I thought it would be nice to engage in some fun shopping together. I have gathered some of my winter accessory finds with you. They include both practical and fun accessory suggestions to help add to your new winter wardrobe. Most items I've selected are available online so you don't even have to face the elements to purchase them.  I have also included some vintage finds from some selected Etsy shops for you to fight over. Let me know what you think!

Before you begin your shopping experience, preview a couple of winter looks I've styled to show you how by adding interesting and sometimes daring accessories can enhance a winter look. In the first look I'm wearing a high collared ruffle dress  from my 'Giovanna Scarfo Queen Of The Sky Collection.' The dress has a detachable collar which enables you to open up the neckline to create a softer statement.  To add colour I'm wearing a cropped red jacket over the dress. Over black stockings I've added stripy arm warmers worn as socks to create a fun layered look. The military beret hat is vintage.
Let me know your thoughts on this ensemble.

In this second look I'm wearing a coat from my 'Giovanna Scarfo Queen Of The Sky Collection' over a floral shirt  fully buttoned up with skinny leg 'White Suede' jeans. I have accessorised with cream cashmere fingerless gloves and a knitted head scarf with pom poms. Both are incredibly warm.  My studded heels are from Nine West. I bought them in brown and black because they seem to go with everything and are incredibly comfortable.
You can see how much character a couple of fun accessories can add to a winter outfit.

Blue Bubbles

Hi everyone. I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I had a wonderful weekend working towards my newest Dusty Petals venture. I have been researching and sourcing some amazing pieces of fashion that I will be making available for purchase through Dusty Petals.  I wanted to allow my followers the rare opportunity to buy a complete look directly through my blog. I used to get frustrated reading magazines where they would layout a look simply listing  the label and price tag.  If you liked what you saw,  you would have to go and find the individual pieces by looking up the shop address closest to you, then calling to ensure they have the desired piece in stock. This can be quite an exhausting task! I wanted to make life easy and allow you all to  buy a styled look from the one source...Dusty Petals. It is almost like I can style you all from my office and deliver it to you in your size immediately.  I am a huge fan of shopping for the latest trends on a budget. I will preview each look directly through 'Dusty Petals' allowing followers to purchase these great affordable ensembles. I will also be selling some great vintage finds I have collected along the way. I'll post more information about this venture in the coming weeks...I'm excited to share some of my finds with you!!!

In today's post I'm wearing two pieces from separate suits that I designed for my Giovanna Scarfo Collection titled 'It SUITS you.' The skirt is part of a jacket, top and skirt ensemble whilst the vest has a matching skirt. I decided to separate these two pieces from their home suit and team them together as I loved the contrast of fabric, texture and shape they create together. The skirt is extremely fun to wear as the fabric allows you to shape it as you please. I try to create an almost lamp shade silhouette when I'm wearing it.

I've accessorised with some fun, frilly, white socks which  I bought in a small kiosk stand in 'The Well' in Camberwell. The shoes are from H&M. I was given the gorgeous vintage hat from my lovely friend Lauren. She bought it from 'Dear Gladys.' I hope you like it! Let me know what you think.

Also, if you are not yet a Dusty Petals fan, simply click on the Eiffel Tower and follow 'Dusty Petals' through bloglovin. This will enable you to be updated  on my new and vintage shop coming soon. You don't want to miss out!

You might notice I'm wearing a bracelet with the name 'Joanna' on it.  It is the closest thing to my name I could find on an accessory; Joanna is the English translation for Giovanna. Close enough! Also, thank you to my gorgeous (other) friend Lauren for my beautiful birthday present; the stunning ring on my pointer finger...I love it!!!
