Raiding Mum's Wardrobe

One of the reasons I was so drawn to fashion was because of my mother. She always made her own clothes from the age of 18. My mother was very petite and could never find clothes to fit her during the 60's and 70's. She always managed to stand out in the crowd, particularly through her use of fabrics. She is extremely creative. In fact it was my mother who made my first designs. We would be up until the early hours of the morning finishing my designs.  As I wore these creations, people would ask me where  I got my clothes from. It was this that made me think that I could start designing for others not just for myself. So, mum and I were a team for some time. It was a fun time and she taught me a lot.

I am fortunate enough to be exactly mum's dress size when she was my age. I often raid through her wardrobe playing dress ups. She has some amazing pieces both bought and made by herself. Here's only a few to get you started.

I absolutely love mum's high waisted blue skirt with its matching tartan cardigan. It reminds me of a sexy 60's airline uniform.  The red floral shirt is actually a vintage shirt of mine. Can't go wrong mixing red with blue. Shoes are from Nine West.

The above dress is one of mum's creations. I love the high neckline with the large bow.

This is mum's 60's mod dress with matching bolero. She used to wear mauve, sheer stockings with this suit. Mum's a little shorter than me so I have to be mindful of bending over in this mini.
Also introducing to you my little fury friend Bonny who is my brother and sister-in-law's puppy. This is probably the only time you will see her with her tongue in her mouth. She loves a good old lick.

The above image is my mother featured in the 'Listener In' newspaper. She was singing on the show 'New Faces.' She had an amazing voice.
Thanks for sharing only a few of mum's vintage collection. I'll try and post some more soon.

  3. Giv,
Brings back memories for this child of the 60's. I have a fab pantsuit with white shorts and a red jacket top in the same fabric as the blue mini! Used to love the excitement of choosing a pattern, matching the fabrics and then mum whipping up the outfit on the old Elna!!
